To All Primal Pet Foods Consumers:

Through a recent product quality review process, we have determined that 5 specific Primal
Canine and Feline Freeze-Dried Poultry Formulas were produced outside of our grind size

specification.

As these products do not meet our precise specifications, we are requesting that these specific
products and lot codes be returned to the Primal retailer at which the product was originally
purchased for full credit. In the case whereby you are unable to return the product directly to
the retailer, please contact our customer service team using the information below to process a

The following is the official recall from the FDA.

Smallbatch Pets Inc. of Portland, Oregon is voluntarily recalling two lots of frozen 2lbs. chicken blend for dogs and cats, brand name Smallbatch, due to the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

Salmonella can affect animals eating the products and there is risk to humans from handling contaminated pet products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the products or any surfaces exposed to these products.

Symptoms of infection in people include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever.  Rarely, Salmonella can result in more serious ailments, including arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms. Consumers exhibiting these signs after having contact with this product should contact their healthcare providers.

Pets with Salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets will have only decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans. If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian.

No pet or consumer illnesses from this product have been reported to date.  However, because of their commitment to safety and quality, Smallbatch Pets is conducting a voluntary recall of this product.  Consumers should also follow the Simple Handling Tips published on the Smallbatch Pets package, when disposing of the affected product.

The potentially affected lots of 2lbs. chicken blend were distributed to retail pet food stores in States CA, CO, OR, WA through pet food retailers/distributors.  Two hundred and eighty-two cases of this product were sold between the dates of 2/1/17 – 5/5/17.

The affected products are sold frozen in 2lbs. bags.  The products affected by this recall are identified with the following manufacturing codes and the “Best By” date is located on the back of the package.

  • Lot: D032
    UPC: 705105970974
    Best By: 2/1/2018
  • Lot: E058
    UPC: 705105970974
    Best By: 2/27/2018

This recall was initiated after routine testing by the Food and Drug Administration of a 2lb bag of chicken blend, that was collected at a distributor, revealed the presence of Salmonella.

This recall is being made with the knowledge of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

Consumers who have purchased the above lots of Chicken Blend are urged to stop feeding them to their dogs or cats and return product to place of purchase for a full refund or dispose of them immediately.

We do apologize for any inconvenience and for all consumer questions, please call us at 888-507 2712, Monday – Friday, 9:00AM – 4:00PM PST or email us at info@smallbatchpets.com.

Wellness Cat Food Recall February 2017

The following can be found on the Wellness Pet Food website:

Here at WellPet we work hard every day to make sure our natural pet food is the best it can be. So when we were notified this week that a very small amount of our canned cat product may not have been manufactured to our high-quality standards, we decided to voluntarily recall it from retailers’ shelves.

Though the chance of having affected product is remote, withdrawing these products is the right thing to do.

Keeping your trust in our brand is so important to us, and so we wanted to let you and our retailers know right away. Since the products may not have been made consistent with our quality assurance guidelines, we want to replace them. Our Quality team learned that a foreign material was found in non-WellPet products made in the same facility, and so we are taking this conservative step to ensure the well-being of cats and to put our consumers’ minds at ease.

The recipes are in 12.5 oz. cans with the following best buy dates:

Wellness Chicken & Herring Canned Cat 12.5 oz, best by date of 8/4/19
Wellness Chicken Canned Cat 12.5 oz, best by date 8/3/19 & 8/4/19
Wellness Chicken & Lobster Canned Cat 12.5 oz, best by date of 8/4/19
Wellness Turkey & Salmon Canned Cat 12.5 oz, best by date of 8/5/19
Wellness Turkey Canned Cat 12.5 oz, best by date of 8/4/19 & 8/5/19
Wellness Beef & Chicken Canned Cat 12.5 oz, best by date of 8/5/19
Wellness Beef & Salmon Canned Cat 12.5 oz, best by date of 8/5/19

Please click here for how the best by date appears on your can.

If you have any of the 12.5 oz recipes with these best buy dates, you may email us at info@wellpet.com or call us at 1-877-227-9587 and we’ll replace your product.

No other Wellness recipes that your pets currently enjoy are involved, so you can continue to feed your pets Wellness with full confidence.

WellPet has worked hard to earn the trust of pet parents, and we fully intend on maintaining that trust. As a parent of a yellow lab named Rommel, I understand the sense of responsibility we all share for our dogs and cats. Rest assured we are taking every action to ensure that our highest standards are being met, and product quality and safety will always be our top priority.

**Update**

This recall was recently expanded to include an additional lot code on some of these products along with 1 new product by Special Kitty.

**End update**

2017 starts off with a pretty large cat food recall. 9Lives, EverPet and Special Kitty have recalled 20 total products due to low levels of thiamine.  Unfortunately, complete UPCs were not provided so we had to manually audit these recalls.

9Lives, EverPet and Special Kitty cat food recall

The following cat food recall information can be found on the FDA’s website.

Orrville, OH – The J.M. Smucker Company today announced a limited voluntary recall on certain lots of 9LivesTM, EverPetTM, and Special KittyTM canned cat food due to possible low levels of thiamine (Vitamin B1).

The issue was discovered by the Quality Assurance team during review of production records at the manufacturing facility. No illnesses related to this issue have been reported to date and the product is being recalled out of an abundance of caution.

Cats fed diets low in thiamine for several weeks may be at risk for developing a thiamine deficiency. Thiamine is essential for cats. Symptoms of deficiency displayed by an affected cat can be gastrointestinal or neurological in nature. Early signs of thiamine deficiency may include decreased appetite, salivation, vomiting, and weight loss. In advanced cases, neurological signs can develop, which include ventroflexion (bending towards the floor) of the neck, wobbly walking, circling, falling, and seizures. Contact your veterinarian immediately if your cat is displaying any of these symptoms. If treated promptly, thiamine deficiency is typically reversible.

The affected product was distributed to a limited number of retail customers from December 20 through January 3, 2017.
