From the FDA website:

MEQUON, WI, (OCTOBER 1, 2021) – FROMM FAMILY FOODS is issuing a voluntary recall of approximately 5,500 cases of Fromm Shredded can Entrée dog food due to potentially elevated levels of Vitamin D.

Consumers should stop feeding the products listed below to their dogs.

Potential adverse reactions could occur in all size dogs.  No reports of illness or injury have been reported from consumers to date, however Fromm management has determined it is prudent to pull these four lots out of distribution.

Dogs ingesting elevated levels of Vitamin D may exhibit symptoms such as vomiting, loss of appetite, increased thirst, increased urination, excessive drooling, and weight loss. Vitamin D when consumed at very high levels can lead to serious health issues in dogs including renal dysfunction. Consumers who have dogs that have consumed any of the affected products and are exhibiting these symptoms should contact their veterinarian.

Affected recalled products were distributed at neighborhood pet stores nationwide. Products are packaged in 12 oz. cans with Best By Date 08/2024. A full list of affected products is below:

Go Raw, LLC, of Cottonwood Utah is recalling its 2lb. frozen bags of “Quest Beef Cat Food” because they may be contaminated with Salmonella. Salmonella can affect animals eating the products and there is risk to humans from handling contaminated pet products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the products or any surfaces exposed to these products.

Healthy people infected with Salmonella should monitor themselves for some or all of the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. Rarely, Salmonella can result in more serious ailments, including arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms. From the FDA website:

Dave’s Pet Food of Agawam, MA is recalling a single lot of Dave’s Dog Food 95% premium beef cans because the products potentially contain elevated levels of beef thyroid hormone.

Product was distributed all along the east coast of the US, sold in pet stores and ecommerce sites.

The recalled product consists of a single batch (548 cases) of 13 oz., 95% premium beef dog food with a UPC # of 85038-11167 and a date code of 08/2020.

Dogs consuming high levels of beef thyroid hormone may exhibit symptoms such as increased thirst and urination, weight loss, increased heart rate and restlessness. These symptoms may resolve when the consumption of these levels is discontinued. However, with prolonged consumption these symptoms may increase in severity and may include vomiting, diarrhea, and rapid or labored breathing. Should these symptoms occur, we recommend pet owners contact their veterinarian immediately.

The recall was initiated after FDA informed Dave’s that one lot of product was analyzed and found to have elevated levels of thyroid hormone. FDA analyzed the product after receiving a complaint that four dogs consuming it were found to have low Free T4 (fT4) and Thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH).

Consumers who have purchased the specific product listed above should stop feeding it to their dogs. If consumers have questions or would like to receive a refund or coupon for replacement product, they should call us at 1-888-763-2738 Monday through Friday, between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM EST.

No other Dave’s products, or any other product manufactured by Dave’s Pet Food, are impacted.

The voluntary recall is being conducted in cooperation with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

It has been a while since we’ve had a recall (knock on wood), but today we found out about the Addiction brand dog food recall announced recently. This recall has been added to the Safe Pet Treats app so you’ll be notified should you come across these products at the pet store the next time you scan the barcode.

Addiction Foods, a Kent-based pet-food company, says it is recalling 355 cases of its canned dog foods after testing showed elevated levels of Vitamin A and a slight variance in calcium / phosphorous ratios.

addiction_pet_food_recall
addiction_pet_food_recall

The company, whose food is manufactured at its plant in New Zealand, says the cans were shipped to distributors and online retailers between Feb. 11 and March 19 and include:

Addiction New Zealand Brushtail and Vegetables Canned Dog Food Entrée
size 13.8oz/390g
UPC code 8 885004 070028
lot number 8940:02Dec2018
expiration date December 2018
Recalled: 8 case

Addiction New Zealand Venison and Apples Canned Dog Food Entrée

UPC code: 8 885004 070462
lot number 8936:01Dec2018
expiration date December 2018
Recalled: 347 cases

Exposure to excessive Vitamin A levels for an extended period of time may cause health problems in young, growing animals. If dogs were fed these products exclusively for 60 days, owners could notice a decrease in appetite.

Consumers are asked to discontinue use of the product, and unused cans may be returned to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers may contact the company at 425-251-0330 or via email at info@addictionfoods.com.

Be sure to join the Safe Pet Treats email list to receive recall alerts and mobile app updates.

Salmonella and Listeria monocytogenes can affect animals eating the products and there is risk to humans from handling contaminated pet products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the products or any surfaces exposed to these products.

Healthy people infected with Salmonella should monitor themselves for some or all of the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever. Salmonella can result in more serious ailments, including arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and urinary tract symptoms. Consumers exhibiting these signs after having contact with this product should contact their healthcare providers.

Pets with Salmonella or Listeria monocytogenes infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever and vomiting. Some pets may have only decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans. If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian.

The FDA third party contracted lab found two lots of Grass-Fed Beef tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes, one lot of Free-range Chicken tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes, and one lot of Free-range Turkey tested positive forSalmonella and Listeria monocytogenes. As a precautionary measure, we are voluntarily recalling three products produced in these four lots.

All affected lot codes 62384, 62361, 62416, and 62372 and Best By dates are located on the lid of all products packaged in tubs and on the bottom of the sample cups.

Fromm Dog Food Recall

Fromm has discovered through its own analysis that the above referenced canned dog foods do not contain recommended levels of vitamins and minerals. These products may contain elevated levels of Vitamin D.

This recall is being implemented in an abundance of caution as symptoms should only be noted in situations where dogs have eaten the affected products as their only meal for an extended period of time, which could lead to depression of appetite. While there have been no reports of any health problems, Fromm is recommending the affected products not be fed.

The affected products were shipped by Fromm to distributor warehouses from December 2015 through February 2016.

Immediately examine your inventory and quarantine product subject to recall. Please identify your customers and notify them at once of this product recall. Your notification to your customers may include a copy of this recall notification letter. This recall should be carried out to the retail level.

Retailers should return the products to distributors for return to Fromm Family Foods.

See the enclosed product labels for ease in identifying the product at retail and user levels.

There are no other Fromm products affected by this recall.

Your assistance is appreciated. If you have questions, contact Fromm Family Foods at 800-325-6331.

This recall is being made with the knowledge of the FDA.
